Volume Spike flags coins whose relative volume (RVOL) is more than twice their 20-period average — that is, current activity is running at over 200% of normal. Unusual volume is often the first footprint of news, a large player, or the start of a fresh move.
Volume is direction-neutral, so this signal sits in both the bullish and bearish lists; what matters is what price does on the spike. A breakout on heavy volume is far more credible than one on quiet tape, while a spike with no follow-through can mark exhaustion. Treat it as an attention filter and confirm the direction with a trend or momentum signal.
